I have been a local primary school teacher for many years, during which time I enjoyed sharing my passion for art as a way of complementing the wider curriculum. I have taught both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with many of these years spent as Art Co-ordinator, designing and overseeing all art curriculums through all primary years. It was always a source of great joy to see the expression on a child’s face when their ideas were captured for all to see and enjoy.
The philosophy behind Artventures is to continue to provide an emphasis on the importance of Art beyond the primary school curriculum. It will fully address the creative mindset and allow for a journey in which children will be encouraged to modify and improve their ideas and creative thinking.
I have had a lifelong interest in art, and the lives of artists and their sources of inspiration. A fascination with shape and colour has informed much of the work that I have brought to the classroom. In addition, illustrations used in children’s literature such as the beautiful work of Shaun Tan, the naivety of Oliver Jeffers and John Burningham and the accuracy of the natural images painted by Beatrix Potter have all served to influence my teaching and children’s learning.
I am the very proud mother of three boys who have now all left home to embark on their own journeys in the UK and abroad. Each one is keenly aware of my love of art which strongly influenced their own childhood. Examples of their work are on display at home some 20 years later! Much to their embarrassment …
I hold a valid extended DBS check, am child protection trained and am insured to safely host Artventures.
I am delighted you are considering Artventures and I look forward to hearing from you,
Liz (Mrs Mahony)
